Join us from 3-6pm for an afternoon of shanties and participating in the making of The Molok!
Hosted by Steven Sherrill, Myths and Monsters will consist of a melding of shanty sing-a-longs and performance of Molok. Our chief sculptor Annalisa Barron, alongside Molok team members and volunteers, will showcase the latest developments of the creature; as you sing, Molok will come to life.
The Molok’s sound designer, Harold Taddy of the The Velvet Noose, will create a live soundscape for this demonstration. Visitors are invited to contribute to the project by donating an item that is personally significant to you (2’ x 2’ max size).
Molok is a 13-foot-tall creature, operated by puppeteers in harnesses and quad stilts, made entirely from re-engineered donations. The skeleton is made of antique crutches. Your item will be built into the creature itself and your story will be recorded in our online archive and could be included in The Book of Molok, and perhaps the film itself!
Doors will open at 2:30pm for a short reception period, and the first shanty set will start at 3pm SHARP! Molok paraphernalia will be available for purchase, as well as food and beverages. Children and families are highly encouraged to attend! Following the performance, there will be a Q&A with The Molok creators. And then... MORE SHANTIES!
